Privacy policy

ExAI supports people going through a breakup or a relationship crisis. To do that, it asks about intimate things: your relationship, how you are doing, your sex life and, if there was any, violence. That is why this policy is written to be understood: what data we collect, why, who else processes it, how long we keep it and how you can delete it.
In short
- We don't sell your data. There is no advertising, no cross-app tracking and no product analytics.
- Your account is anonymous until you pay. When you pay, it is linked to your Apple or Google account.
- What you write to the Coach is processed by Google's artificial intelligence (Vertex AI) to answer you. We don't send it your name, your email or your identifier.
- You can delete your account, with all your data, from the app.
1. Who is responsible for your data
The controller is PPL Launch Partners LLC ("ExAI", "we"). You can write to us at [email protected] about anything in this policy.
2. What data we collect
2.1 Your account
- An anonymous identifier, created the first time you open the app. No name, no email.
- If you link your account with Apple or Google (when you pay, or from You › Account): that account's identifier and its email. Apple may give us a relay email instead of yours. With Google, our account provider (Firebase) also receives that account's name and profile photo address.
- If you set a code to lock the app: we don't store the code, but an encrypted fingerprint of it and of its recovery code, to check them on another phone. If you ask to set a new code without the recovery code, we store when you asked and whether it was with Apple or Google.
2.2 Your age
Before you start, we ask for the year you were born. We don't store it: the app only stores, and only on your phone, whether you are an adult. If you are not, nothing of yours is written to our servers.
2.3 Your diagnosis
When you start, you answer a questionnaire. With your answers the app chooses your route and your plan:
- Your relationship: your gender and the other person's, how long it lasted, who ended it, how and when, contact since then, whether there is a new relationship and the cause of the breakup.
- Infidelity, if there was any: whose, whether the other person knows, and in previous relationships.
- What you have done since the breakup, such as looking for the other person or asking to get back together.
- Questions about you, depending on your gender. Among them, some about your sex life (for example, how many sexual partners you have had in the last five years, or whether you watch pornography) and, in some cases, about your weight.
- Safety questions about violence you experienced or used: whether someone grabbed you, pushed you or blocked your way out, or whether you did; threats, weapons, the neck and forced sex. Each answer is stored as you gave it, and with them the app decides whether there is a safety alert and at what level.
Until you finish the questionnaire, your answers are stored only on your phone. When you finish it, they go to our servers.
2.4 Your check-ins
- A test of 41 negative behaviors in the relationship, at the start and at some points of the plan.
- Your check-in, every week: how clear you are about what you want, how many days you spent time with people, which of the things that feed rumination you did (such as checking their social media) and how many times you almost wrote to them. Sometimes, an open question.
2.5 What you write and record
- What you write in your plan: your situation, its causes and your plan for each element, and each month's review.
- The events and signals you record: what happened with the other person (they wrote to you, asked to meet, blocked you…), with its date and, for signals, what you describe about them. Also your own hard moments, such as a wave of sadness or the urge to write to them.
- The times the other person showed up where you were: when, where and whether they saw you.
- Your messages to the Coach and its answers, and whether an answer helped you or not.
- If you report an artificial intelligence answer: the reason, what you write (if you write anything) and a copy of that answer (section 5).
- Whether you gave permission for the artificial intelligence, and when (section 5).
- What you write in the Practice exercises and the feedback you get.
- Your progress: the weeks completed, what you read, where you left each reading and what you highlighted.
- If you report that a helpline number didn't work: your phone's country and the date.
2.6 Your purchases
Whether your subscription is active and until when, your hearts balance, and the receipt of each hearts pack you buy (what you bought, when and whether it was refunded). We don't see your card or your payment details: payment is processed by Apple or Google.
2.7 Technical data
- Your phone's time zone, to refill your hearts at your midnight.
- Your phone's language and region, to show you the app and the helplines of your country. We don't use your location.
- Crash reports, without your data: the type of error, the place in the code, the phone model, the system and app versions, and an installation identifier.
- A check that the app is the original one and runs on a real phone (Play Integrity on Android, DeviceCheck on iPhone).
- The update check: when it opens, the app asks whether there is a new version.
2.8 What stays on your phone
This never reaches us:
- what you write in Crisis Mode instead of sending it to the other person;
- your language and notification preferences, and the Crisis Mode timers;
- the icon you choose for the app;
- and the lock settings, encrypted in your phone's keychain.
Notifications are local: your phone schedules them, and we don't use notifications sent from a server.
3. Sensitive data
Part of the above is sensitive information:
- your emotional health: your check-ins, the test and your hard moments;
- your sex life;
- violence: your safety answers and the times the other person showed up;
- infidelity.
We ask for it because the method needs it to choose your route and, above all, to protect you: if there are signs of violence, the app stops helping you win the other person back and shows you helplines. We use it only to provide the service, never for advertising.
4. What we use your data for
- Providing the service: your diagnosis, your route, your plan and your progress.
- Your safety: violence alerts and helplines. Alerts are reviewed again after six months.
- The Coach and the other artificial intelligence features (section 5).
- Your subscription and your hearts: checking what you paid for.
- Preventing abuse: usage limits and the app check.
- Fixing errors, with reports that carry none of your data.
- Keeping helplines up to date: when several people report that one doesn't work, we review it. We count the reports without knowing who made them.
- Improving the Coach's answers, with your "helpful" or "not helpful" ratings.
We don't use your data for advertising, we don't build commercial profiles and we don't train artificial intelligence models with it.
5. Artificial intelligence
Three features of the app use artificial intelligence models from Google Cloud (Vertex AI, Gemini models), running on servers in the US:
Before the first time, the app asks for your permission to send this data to the artificial intelligence. Without that permission, none of the three sends anything: our server checks it. You can withdraw it whenever you want from You, and give it again; withdrawing it doesn't delete what was already sent.
- The Coach. We send it your message and your recent conversation (the last exchanges from
the last 60 days). With them goes the context:
- your language, your gender and the other person's;
- your route and your elements;
- your diagnosis answers about the relationship, including those about infidelity;
- if you're a man and you were the one who ended the relationship, what you answered and wrote in Weeks 1 and 2, to decide whether to go back or let go: why you left and the question that follows it —one of the reasons is "I stopped desiring her"—, what you wrote about why you left and what has changed since, what you miss most —one of the answers is "the sex"—, whether you'd go back to stay, your commitment, in your own words, and the result;
- if you ended it and you don't regret it, what you wrote in Week 1, under "Write down why you ended it";
- and, if there is a safety alert, its level.
- Analyzing a signal. What you recorded about that signal and your records from the last 30 days, including the times the other person showed up where you were.
- Feedback on the Practice exercises. What you wrote in the exercise.
We don't send your name, your email or your identifier.
What the artificial intelligence answers is generated automatically. It can be wrong, and it is not professional advice.
You can report an answer from the answer itself: if it's offensive, dangerous, wrong or something else. We keep the reason, what you write (up to 1,000 characters, if you write anything) and a copy of that answer for 90 days, to review it. Only our team reads it. We get a notice with the reason and which feature the answer came from, without its text or yours.
Google processes it as our provider to generate the answer. To prevent abuse, its system may keep, for a limited time, the messages it flags as possible abuse. We keep your conversation with the Coach for 60 days; you can delete it sooner from the chat's ⋯ menu.
6. Who else processes your data
Only providers that work on our behalf, for what is described here. None of them receives it for advertising or for their own purposes.
| Provider | What it does |
|---|---|
| Google (Firebase and Google Cloud) | Stores your data and your account, and runs the server (Firestore, Authentication, Cloud Functions, Storage, Cloud Logging). In the US. |
| Google (Vertex AI) | The artificial intelligence models (section 5). In the US. |
| Google (Crashlytics and App Check) | Crash reports and the app check. |
| Apple and Google | Signing in with your Apple or Google account. |
| Adapty | In-app purchases and your subscription status. It receives your anonymous identifier, your purchases, your store's country, that you saw the plans screen, and technical data from your phone. It doesn't receive your IP address: we have turned that off. |
| Expo | App updates. |
| Cloudflare | Serves these web pages. |
The App Store and Google Play process your payments under their own policies.
We may disclose data if a law or a competent authority requires it.
7. Where it is stored
Your data is stored and processed in the United States. If you live in another country, that is an international data transfer.
8. How long we keep it
| What | How long |
|---|---|
| Your conversation with the Coach | 60 days from each message, or until you delete it. |
| The record of each artificial intelligence answer, including signal analyses and Practice feedback | 60 days. |
| A report of an artificial intelligence answer, with what you wrote and the copy of the answer | 90 days, or until you delete your account. |
| Whether you gave permission for the artificial intelligence | Until you delete your account. |
| What you write in Practice and its feedback | Until you reset your progress or delete your account. How many attempts you used, until you delete your account. |
| Your plan, your diagnosis, your events and your highlights | Until you reset your progress or delete your account. |
| Your safety answers and alerts, the times the other person showed up, the test and your check-ins | Until you delete your account. Resetting your progress doesn't delete them, on purpose: otherwise, resetting would be a way around the protection. |
| Your subscription, your hearts and their receipts | Until you delete your account. |
| An account nobody opens for 12 months | Deleted entirely, with everything in this table, as if you had deleted it. If it has an active subscription, it's kept until the subscription ends. |
| Crash reports | About 90 days. |
| The server's technical logs, without your data | About 30 days. |
9. How to delete your account and your data
From the app
Go to You › Account › Delete my account, and type the word it asks for to confirm.
Everything is deleted:
- your plan, your diagnosis, your check-ins and the test;
- your events, your conversation with the Coach and what you wrote in Practice;
- your safety answers and alerts;
- your hearts and their receipts, and the fingerprint of your lock code;
- your Adapty profile;
- and the account.
If the account was linked with Apple and you delete it from an iPhone, we also revoke ExAI's access to your Apple account. It can't be undone.
Deleting your account doesn't cancel your subscription: you cancel it in the App Store or in Google Play (see the terms).
What remains afterwards doesn't show it was yours:
- the count of helpline reports, without who made them;
- technical logs and crash reports, without your identifier, until they expire;
- and whatever Apple or Google keep about your payment.
Other ways to delete
- Resetting your progress (You › Reset progress): deletes your plan, your diagnosis, your events, your highlights, your conversation with the Coach and what you wrote in Practice. It keeps your safety data, the test, your check-ins, your subscription and your hearts.
- Deleting the conversation with the Coach, from the chat's ⋯ menu.
- Uninstalling the app deletes what stays on your phone, but not your account on our servers: that one is deleted by itself if nobody opens it for 12 months.
If you can't get into the app
Write to us at [email protected] from the email of the Apple or Google account you linked, and we will delete your account.
An account you never linked has nothing that lets us recognize it as yours outside your phone; that is why it is deleted from the app.
10. Your rights
Depending on the law of your country, you can ask us to:
- access your data and receive a copy;
- correct or delete it;
- tell you who we share it with;
- withdraw your consent;
- and stop a use you object to.
Write to us at [email protected]. To protect you, we can only act for someone who shows the account is theirs: with the email of the linked account, or from the app.
You can also complain to the data protection authority of your country.
11. How we protect your data
- Everything travels encrypted.
- Each person can only read their own data, and your phone can't change what the server writes.
- We don't store your lock codes, only their fingerprint.
- The server only serves the original app.
- Crash reports leave without your data.
What the app can't control:
- what stays outside it, such as notifications you already saw, your browser or call history, and your phone's backups;
- and what someone sees if they have your phone unlocked or access to your accounts.
If you worry that someone may look at your phone, use the app lock and the discreet icon.
12. Minors
ExAI is only for people 18 and older. If you say you are a minor when you start, the app doesn't continue and doesn't store anything of yours on our servers. If we learn that we have a minor's data, we delete it.
13. Other people's data
When you use ExAI you write about another person: your ex. We use that only to provide the service. Please don't write their full name, their phone number, their address or anything that could identify them.
14. Changes to this policy
If we change it, we will change the date above. If the change is important, we will tell you in the app before it applies.
